Get to know our Chief of Police and how he leads the Columbia Police Department with 200 sworn and civilian employees.

Police Chief Burton will present answers to some of your important questions about Policing Columbia as well as a refresher course of helpful safety tips for you and your workplace. 

This is your opportunity to interact with Chief Burton who has served the Columbia community as Chief of Police for three years (appointed March 2009).  Burton has his Bachelor of Science Degree, Law Enforcement and Police Science Degree from Sam Houston State University. He also holds a master Peace Officer License and Police Instructor Certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.  He belongs to multiple law enforcement organizations, including both the Missouri and Texas Police Chief’s Association.
